Sareis valley station, Malbun cable cars

1962 - The first lift in Malbun - a drag lift to Hochegg - adds another facet to Liechtenstein's skiing movement.

1963 - As an alternative to Skilift AG's Hochegg lift, Malbunbahn AG puts the chairlift to the Sariserjoch and the mountain restaurant of the same name into operation on December 15th.

2000 - Due to the poor financial situation of the two lift companies Malbun-Bahn AG and Skilift AG, the shareholders agree to a merger of the two lift companies to form Bergbahnen Malbun AG.

2003 - After the decision has been made that the existing lift systems will no longer receive an operating license from the Swiss Federal Office of Transport (BAV) after the next winter of 2004/05, those responsible are up to their necks. There is a need for action! In order to secure the long-term future of Liechtenstein's only winter sports resort, the visions and ideas ultimately result in a concrete concept with state-of-the-art lifts, snow cannons and a comprehensive infrastructure. In 2003, an important hurdle for a “new” Malbun was overcome. The Liechtenstein state parliament and the municipalities support the 26 million project for the renewal of the mountain railway infrastructure in Malbun and decide on 75 percent financing by the state and municipalities. The rest must be raised privately.

2005 - At the beginning of April, the decisive hurdle for the continued existence of the winter sports resort was overcome - the financing for the new Malbun is in place! Thanks to funds from the state, municipalities and private individuals, the 26 million francs needed to renew the ski area have been raised. A new board of directors of Bergbahnen Malbun AG will be appointed in May.

New dress for Malbun - Malbun has appeared in a new dress since winter 2006/2007. The lifts and snowmaking system will be in operation in time for the season opening on December 8, 2006.

A modern six-seater chairlift with heated seats and a wind protection hood takes skiers to the valley. From the same valley station, a comfortable four-seater chairlift leads to Hochegg. Thanks to the snowmaking system along the main slopes, winter fun is guaranteed for the entire season. With the help of a new access system, passengers can get onto the lift and thus onto the ski slope more easily and quickly.

From Malbun 1600 m above sea level up to around 2000 m above sea level. Take the chairlift up comfortably...

If you don't want to hike all uphill or downhill, you can use the more comfortable option
