"Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was born in the traditional cloth-making town of Lennep in 1845. The scion of a cloth-making family spent the first years of his life here. In 1895, he discovered rays at the University of Würzburg, which the whole world now knows as X-rays.

Röntgen's work not only revolutionized all medical diagnostics and paved the way for many high-tech applications. The brilliant physicist, discoverer, researcher and winner of the first Nobel Prize for Physics is a "leading figure in interdisciplinary and creative lateral thinking".

The Röntgen Museum opened in 1932. For the Regionale 2006 it was able to be transformed from a special scientific museum into a real-life theme and family museum of creative research and eventful discovery. The new multi-layered and multilingual processing of the topics is particularly suitable for families, children and young people. It ranges from popular science to subject-specific, from the microcosm to the macrocosm, from research paths for children to multimedia data archives.

A visitor laboratory, a cinema, restaurants, a museum shop and temporary exhibitions round off the museum experience. The motto here is not just looking and marveling, but actively and interactively trying out and experimenting yourself, following in Röntgen's footsteps and becoming a researcher yourself. "

The German X-ray Museum in Remscheid - Lennep was founded in 1932.

Röntgen's birthplace - 150 meters from the museum - was attached to the museum and serves as a study building in which the museum's entire library is housed and in which the ultrasound museum will also display its literature.

The internationally recognized museum has set itself the task of presenting Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen's research as well as the physical and clinical aspects of the topic in a didactic way for interested parties and experts.

The museum has a unique collection of devices for all areas of application with ionizing radiation.

The X-ray Museum was able to reopen at the beginning of June 2021 after 2 years of renovation and corona measures. While there has been an ultrasound booth since 2005, which pointed the visitor to the possibilities of ultrasound in imaging, and to the exhibits in Dahlerau, active participation plays a greater role in the new museum concept. Here the ultrasound plays a prominent role for pupils and teachers, especially in the RöLab school laboratory (RÖNTGENLABOR - Deutsches Röntgen Museum (roentgenmuseum.de). An examination can be performed and experienced on several functioning ultrasound systems and phantoms
