"Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was born in the traditional cloth-making town of Lennep in 1845. The scion of a cloth-making family spent the first years of his life here. In 1895, he discovered rays at the University of Würzburg, which the whole world now knows as X-rays.

The Röntgen Museum opened in 1932. The German X-ray Museum in Remscheid - Lennep was founded in 1932.
