On the Breestraat stands the old Renaissance façade of the town hall from 1600, designed by Lieven de Key, who was also responsible for the façade of Bremen's town hall. After a major fire in 1929, which also destroyed parts of the town hall, the renewed town hall by architect C.J. Blaauw created. The tower, which was also destroyed in the fire, was integrated in a new location and is home to a large carillon.

Leiden City Hall is used as a wedding location and meeting place for the city. The city hall is located between the Breestraat and the Vismarkt in the Dutch city of Leiden.

      Old and new City Hall

On the Breestraat is the old Renaissance facade from 1600, designed by Lieven de Key, the city stonemason of Haarlem, and Lüder von Bentheim, who simultaneously built the Renaissance facade of the city hall of Bremen.[1] On the side of the Vismarkt is the renovated city hall, which was designed in 1932 by architect C.J. Blaauw, after a devastating fire on 12 February 1929. A design by W.M. Dudok was rejected. Because the fire destroyed many buildings on the Vismarkt, this side could be expanded and a square space (Stadhuisplein) could be created. A restaurant and entertainment venue are now located in the spaces under the city hall on the square.
