Since the 17th century, Pointe du Gouin has been armed with coastal batteries which have evolved over time. Le Petit Gouin is the part open to Camaret cove. The Grand Gouin opens onto the ocean side and had no defenses before the German invasion.
    • 1694 - The first battery occupies an artificial platform with an uncertain number of cannons - two perhaps. There must have been a small powder magazine nearby.
    • 1747 - 4 22-pounder naval guns and 4 18-pounder naval guns. The shooting platforms are made of wooden planks. The parapet is made of earth and the cannons fire through spaces created in the earth embankments - "embrasures".
    • Late 18th century - 3 22-pound cannons on coast mounts for greater angle rotation with parapet reinforced with earth.
    • 1859 - 3 22cm howitzers and 3 30-pound iron cannons on iron coast mounts on two separate platforms. Stone parapet.
    • 1896 - 4 95mm mle 1888 cannons installed on the high platform with a low masonry parapet, the cannon having an armored mask.
    • 2 95mm model 1888-04 warning cannons remained in 1939.
    • 1943 - the German army builds two 671 bunkers on the French battery which is modified, these are equipped with two French 75mm cannons model 1904 - 7.5cm K.97 (f) German reference.

To ensure the protection of the Camaret-sur-Mer cove, a guardhouse was built in 1859 on the Pointe du Grand-Gouin, to which a battery of four cannons was added in 1896. The complex was completed in 1941 with German blockhouses. Restored in 2019/2020, the guardhouse is a rare example of its type accessible to the public.
