At the beginning of the 19th century, the "Blokhus cannon" was found floating on the beach at Blokhus. It was the time of the Great Britain War, and it was believed to have come from one of the many British warships that had been shipwrecked in Jammer Bay.
For a time the cannon was used to fire gun salutes for the merchant ships - partly to welcome them, but also to show them the way to the beach.
To prevent the Germans from stealing the Blokhus cannon and taking it home, it was buried in the dunes where it spent many years.
Today she is back in town and forms an important part of the historical identity of Blokhus.
In summer you can see and hear at the beach kiosks from 9:00 p.m. how the sun is "shot down" at sunset.
