Very nice view of the coast over the vineyards and the scrubland, a military monument from 1850 undergoing renovation, a climb that is not too hard, be careful in summer it can be very hot

A hidden gem with a fascinating past…🏰
The Batterie de la Galline was built in just one year, between 1885 and 1886, as part of France’s coastal defense system after the war of 1870. It housed around 70 soldiers and was equipped with four cannons, aiming not only at the coastline but also at the nearby dynamite factory in Paulilles. The name Galline means “hen” in French — the reason for the name is still a mystery.Today, the site offers stunning views over the sea and surrounding hills. In spring, the area is full of wild lavender, thyme, and rosemary. The combination of history, landscape, and scent makes it a unique stop along the trail.
