Just outside the Kasselrijbeekpad you can clearly see the Kasselrijbeek. This stream originates in the municipality of Zwevegem (Heestert) and flows into the Gaverbeek in Nieuwenhove-Waregem. The stream used to form the border between the Kasselrij Oudenaarde and the Kasselrij Kortrijk. The stream was then called the Fifta. From this came the name Vichte. The border ran and runs right through the current Vichte. It mattered. The first settlement built on the left bank by monks from Reims before 1110 was (probably) destroyed by foresters of the Kasselrij Kortrijk. Later, the first knight of Vicht (Goswin van Peteghem, later Vander Vichte) offered protection to the monks who built the Oude Kerk, this time on the right bank. Fortunately... the church is still there. The foresters of Harelbeke (and the surrounding area) had nothing to say there!

This is where the Kasselrijbeek enters Vichte. The Kasserijbeek rises in Heestert (Zwevegem) and flows into the Gaverbeek in Nieuwenhove-Waregem.
