In 1699, Count Johan Philipp von Isenburg-Birstein gave a piece of forest beyond the Frankfurt city limits for clearing and settlement to a few hundred Huguenots who had fled France. The free imperial city of Frankfurt built a defiant forester's house out of fear for its unprotected city forest, which was completed in 1702. Since the foresters who were deployed were given permission to pour beer and wine at the same time, the young people from New Isenburg came in droves to the Sunday dance and not only crossed the city limits but also those set by the pastor. As a result, in 1714 shouting, dancing and drinking "was forbidden with a penalty of one or two guilders. In 1777 the forestry office and inn were separated and the Frankfurt house developed into a popular restaurant. Today the Frankfurter Haus is one of the most popular meeting places in the local region.
