Embark on the Croce della Reit Loop, a moderate hiking route that takes you through beautiful larch and pine forests. You will navigate numerous hairpin bends as you ascend, leading to incredible panoramic views. From the iconic Croce della Reit, you can gaze upon expansive vistas of Bormio and the surrounding valleys, including Valdisotto, Valfurva, and Valle di Fraele. This rewarding hike covers 5.6 miles (9.1 km) and involves a significant elevation gain of 2871 feet (875 metres). Plan for about 4 hours and 1 minute to complete the loop, making it a good challenge for hikers with solid fitness.
The Croce della Reit Loop is best enjoyed from spring through late autumn, when the weather is generally mild and the paths are clear. If you plan to hike during winter, be aware that the trail can be covered in snow, which transforms the landscape but requires different gear and preparation. Always check local conditions and weather forecasts before you head out to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
This trail offers a diverse experience, moving from shaded woodlands to open viewpoints. Beyond the main Croce della Reit, keep an eye out for the Baitin del Mago viewpoint, which provides another excellent perspective of the surrounding area. The route is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Stelvio National Park, showcasing its varied terrain and stunning mountain scenery.
