Hiking

On August 20, 1792, during the Revolution, the equestrian statue of Louis XV was erected. demolished and melted down to make cannons. It was then replaced by a freedom tree and the square was named "Place de la Liberté". Later, on the occasion of the arrival of Napoleon I, the square was briefly called "Place Impériale" before becoming "Place Royale" again with the restoration of the monarchy in 1815.

Cycling

The Place Royale in the center of Nantes, France, was designed in 1786 by Nantes architect Mathurin Crucy. The monumental fountain was inaugurated in 1865 and designed by the city architect Henri Théodore Driollet. He symbolizes the flowing and maritime vocation of Nantes. (Wikipedia)
