Anhalts' graves in the Castle Park

In the northern part of the castle park of the Pszczyna Castle, near the ice cellar, an unusual necropolis of the Anhalt dukes of the Anhalt family ruling in the years 1765-1847 has found its place. Prince Henry Anhalt himself, who lived in the years 1778-1847, was the initiator of establishing a family cemetery, and at the same time tidying up the graves of deceased parents and siblings.

The necropolis was built after 1808 in the form of a sandstone obelisk with an inscription in German meaning: "... you will rise again, ah, you will rise again, my dust, after a short rest". The buried people are mentioned on the stone tombstones placed in front of him.

    They rest here:

    Prince Frederick Erdmann Anhalt (1731-1797),

wife of Prince Luiz Ferdinand Stolberg-Wernigerode (1744-1784)

    and their children

Georg (1776-1777), Christiana (1774-1783) and Emanuel Ernst Erdmann (1768-1808).

On the opposite side, there is the tomb of Prince Louis Anhalt (1783-1841), covered with a thick tombstone with an iron cross, with arms crowned with lilies, entwined by a serpent, which is a message symbolizing the resurrection after death in a romantic convention. The serpent entwining the cross appeared to Moses as an image of Christ's passion and resurrection.
