The village of Katzenthal and its castle look back on a long history. The castle (now ruins) lies above the village and was built in the 12th century. However, the houses are not half-timbered buildings like in other Alsatian villages. The village was 95% destroyed during the resistance fighting in and around Colmar and was rebuilt thanks to the Marshall Plan. That's why you won't find any half-timbered houses or winding streets here. But a unique location in a valley surrounded by forests and vineyards.
