In the 19th century, under the tenure of the Prussian Minister of Agriculture, Victor von Podbielski, the planning of the connecting route between the park and the Deister began. The well gardener Carl Thon planted it with a spherical maple avenue (Acer platanoides 'Globosum'). The avenue bore the name “Podbielskiweg” and is popularly known as the Bubikopfallee. The pond at Erlengrund originated from the wasteland of the then mud reservoir and is now the green link to the Deister mountain range. Remembered here

the Carl Thon way to his personality.

The Erlengrund was created as a green connection between the Nenndorfer Kurpark and the Deister. The Erlengrund is part of the Kurpark cultural monument as well as the Süddeister nature reserve and the Weserbergland nature reserve.

The expansion of the Erlengrundstrasse to the Bundesstrasse 65 in 1932 and the construction of the A2 in 1938 divided the Erlengrund into three parts. As the northern part, an avenue leads from the spa gardens on the Galenberg down to the main road. The Cecilienhöhe and its immediate surroundings form the small sub-area south of the tunneled motorway. The main part of the approximately 96,000 m² Erlengrund lies between the main road and the motorway.

At the moment the Erlengrund is completely "turned inside out" and is blocked. Many trees were felled and the original landscape designed by Carl Thon is to be restored.
