A small, light green spot on Google Maps: On Pelkovenstraße in the north of Munich, right next to the Olympia shopping center, there should be a bouldering wall. This is what it says on the Kraxlkollektiv's website. And indeed: next to a playground with a large slide, an asphalt football field and a large playground, there is a wave-shaped wall made of shotcrete. Bouldering grips are screwed to its surface, some of which are sprayed with graffiti.

Playground boulder only moderately demanding

My first warm-up boulders run up out of habit. But it quickly becomes clear: the challenge on this wall lies in the trusses. Five different handle colors indicate five different transverse routes along the entire wall. Some passages have thick handles, others require grip on small strips. Even the uneven wall structure is integrated into the routes with a few small grip options and gives the place an almost rock-like feeling - at least after such a long abstinence.

The ground is covered with bark mulch. This is not as soft as the mattresses you know from the bouldering hall, but because all routes run along the vertical wall, you land upright on the ground even with high falls. But if you are honest, the wall on Pelkovenstraße cannot offer any real challenges for too long. The routes have not been changed since the wall was erected and those who regularly boulder will hardly be able to go to their own limits here.
