Hiking

Crystal clear high mountain lakes, but very cold. The Wangenitzsee can also be circumnavigated. In addition to the two lakes mentioned, there are numerous small pools and swampy areas, which makes this area very attractive.

Mountaineering

The Wangenitzsee is located in the Schober group in the Hohe Tauern National Park at 2465 m above sea level (making it the highest mountain lake) and also the largest mountain lake in the Austrian state of Carinthia. The lake is located southeast of the Hoher Perschitzkopf on the Wiener Höhenweg, only about 100 meters from the border with East Tyrol.
