The - probably worldwide - most famous sanctuary dedicated to Archangel Michael is this French "Mont St. Michel" on a small, very impressive monastery island off Normandy, which is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its uniqueness.
The name Michael / Michel (coming from the Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - in paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword or lance.
Along with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel, Michael is one of the four Archangels who (according to human conception) hold the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the calendar of saints is September 29th.

Sensational. It's much more impressive than I expected. We were there at a time when the tide was low and the shadow of Mont St. Michel was very clearly visible in the sand. Very impressive. The earlier you get there, the fewer people there are.

Good and easy to book tickets for entry online... then it goes quite quickly in the morning... judging by the parking options, it can also get really full. Incredible complex... the "village" is very busy... in the abbey, where you have to pay to enter, it's more of a scattering... the earlier the morning, the better. An incredible complex that has been constantly being worked on for centuries. Somewhat surprising... in the middle of the venerable walls there is this arcade and this greenery.
