The beautiful river landscape between Freiberg, Ingersheim and Pleidelsheim is one of the last near-natural Neckar sections in the district of Ludwigsburg. The Pleidelsheimer Wiesental was designated as a nature reserve in 1977 on an area of 7 hectares and the Altneckar in 1979 with 37 hectares by the Stuttgart Regional Council. Due to their valuable natural inventory, the areas have gained Europe-wide importance and are part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas as a fauna-flora habitat and a European bird sanctuary.
