Cumberland Castle was built in neo-Gothic style and moved in 1886. The builder was Ernst August, Crown Prince of Hanover and 3rd Duke of Cumberland, son of George V, the last king.
It has a varied history behind it. First, it became the exile home of the royal family of Hanover, after this was dissolved by the Prussian occupation of 1866.
After the seizure of power of the national socialists it served among other things as war hospital. Since the Second World War it is owned by the Repuplik Austria, later the country Upper Austria.
It served until 1972 as a TBC hospital and since then as a state nursing home.
