Around 925, the castle Windischleuba was founded, which served as Grenzveste to protect Altenburg. Around 1244 Heinrich von Kohren and Hugo zu Stolberg were the owners of the castle. Later, shortly after 1300, the feudal rule over Windischleuba passed from the burgraves of Meissen to the burgraves of Leisnig. After several owners Windischleuba remained until 1650 in the possession of those of the Gabelentz. In 1632, Castle Windischleuba burned down in the Thirty Years' War. In 1677 Georg Ernst von Zehmen acquired from the Fürstl. Retirement chamber the manor Windischleuba with his castle. In 1678 he also married Christiane Sophie von Thumbshirn, daughter of Wolfgang Conrad von Thumbshirn who was one of the negotiators of the Westphalian Peace and Herzögl. Sächs.-Altenburg. His only son, Börries, died in 1934 at the age of 29, and the poet's wife died in January 1945. In the documentary first mention of 1244 is from a place Luben minor (Kleinleuben) for the distinction of Luben major (Großleuben, = Langenleuba) the speech. Even in later centuries, there was still the minor form "Wenigeleube (s)".
