This monument commemorates the crew of a British bomber shot down by a German fighter on April 14, 1943, while returning from a raid on Stuttgart. The plane crashed in the Nismes woods, killing all seven men on board. The monument was erected in 1994 by a local association, with the help of the Wings Aviation Museum and the families of the crew. You'll find the monument along a hiking trail that leads to the crash site, where parts of the plane are still visible.

During the night of April 14 to 15, 1943, a Short Stirling III BF513 / AA-E from 75 Squadron RAF crashed north-west of the hamlet of Regniessart (part of Viroinval). The four-engined aircraft was on its way to Stuttgart when it was attacked by a German night fighter piloted by Lt Fritz Graef of I./NJG 4 from Florennes. The entire crew of the Stirling was killed; they were buried in the municipal cemetery of Florennes. On board were P / O Donald G. McCaskill RNZAF (pilot, NZ / 13573), Sgt Angus McVicar (flight engineer, 1371651), P / O James K. Grainger RNZAF (navigator, NZ / 42295), Sgt Bertram Elwell (bomb sight, 519416), Sgt Reginald TC Green (radio operator, 1211032), Sgt Ernest D. Cook (gunner, 1609864), Sgt Ronald A.
