As early as the 1970s, the city of Wilhelmshaven came up with the idea of creating a circular route around Lake Banter so that all citizens and visitors of Wilhelmshaven could experience this lake as closely as possible.
Sections of the circular route were realized in the 1980s with so-called ABM forces. However, after these measures expired, the idea was no longer actively pursued in the last 30 years. In 2012 the path was completed with its current, not yet final course.
