The Mittelbachtal nature reserve is located between Vlotho-Exter and Löhne-Wittel on the border between Herford and Minden-Lübbecke. It covers an area of 34.10 hectares. It comprises a 2-kilometer section in the area where the Mittelbachsieksystem was created. The valley sections adjacent to the north are designated as a landscape protection area. The Mittelbach flows into the Werre in the built-up urban area of Löhne-Gohfeld.

Hiking

The Mittelbachtal is a densely wooded and narrow valley that can be hiked along both sides of the stream.
There are a few beautiful ponds here, the clearly visible Mittelbach and a playground with a shelter at the former Nature Friends House. There are also a few information boards.
In the area of the ponds there is a little-known hiking car park that is not signposted from the road.
