The initiative to build this monument was launched in 2011 by the “Patriotic League” Gradačac, and construction began in 2016. The project was financially supported by the governments of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Tuzla Canton, as well as the municipality of Gradačac, local businesses and individuals. The monument was unveiled on 20 August 2017 at a ceremony attended by numerous officials, including Bakir Izetbegović, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Husein ef. Kavazović, reis-l-ulema (grand mufti) of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
