Gozd Martuljek was named after the river, and the house names in Srednji Vrh date back to the time of the Turkish invasions. After the First World War, milling, ironworks, timber rafting, and charcoal burning were highly developed here, and are now being revived as local traditions.

Gozd Martuljek is a wonderful blend of untouched Alpine nature with mountain waterfalls, a rich ethnographic heritage, and the Martuljek Group, with the slender rock pyramid of Špik at its center, which lends the wall a special charm.

The numerous roaring waterfalls that form a network in the Martuljek Group attract nature lovers and mountain hikers in the summer months. In winter, when the waterfalls from the mountain slopes transform into a curtain of ice, they create a natural polygon for anyone who wants to try ice climbing on frozen waterfalls.

The most beautiful view of the Martuljek Group can be seen from Srednji Vrh, the Karawanks mountain range opposite.
