Rutland Water is the largest man made lake in England by surface area and is situated in more than 3,000 acres (1,214 ha) of rolling countryside. The lake is a hotspot for recreation and relaxation, affording ample opportunity for hiking, cycling, fishing and watersports. It is a great place for wildlife spotting and is often home to in excess of 25,000 waterfowl.

One of the most iconic features of the reservoir is Normanton Church, which was saved from demolition back in 1970 when plans were outlined to flood the area.

If you are walking/cycling the full circuit on the track note that Barnsdale parking is £3 compared to £10 at the other car parks and the best refreshments are at the Rutland Nurseries Cafe between Manton and the Lynton reserve, or the Horse & Jockey pub in Manton who finished their refurbishment last week.
