Little is known about the medieval construction phases of Oldenaller Castle. The name Aller first appears in the 14th century, as the wonderfully good Aller. The current almost square castle was built in 1655 by order of Johan van Wijnbergen. The house is built entirely of brick, in the style of Dutch classicism. The castle was built from the ground up and has four symmetrical facades, similar in design. In the center of the building is a chimney with a viewing terrace. In 1848, Baron Goltstein buys the castle and decides to carry out important modernizations. A major renovation changes the classicist castle into a romantic, white-plastered exterior. The characteristic middle tower replaces the monumental chimney. The sleek, symmetrical park layout also changes in these years into a landscape layout with winding paths and water features. For these changes at home and park, K.G. Zocher responsible.(natuurmonumenten.nl/natuurbedrijven/oldenaller/monument/kasteel-oldenaller)
