If you have more time, you should choose the northern alternative, which is much more scenic and almost traffic-free.
Below you will pass large estates first, then lemon plantations will follow. The landscape becomes more rugged, you drive through a small gorge and the higher you go, the better the views of Syracuse and the blue sea.
A very useful driveway, which of course is also easy to walk.
