Ancient Roman road with stone paving. Variant of the ancient Cassia, route that united Florence (Florentia) to the Valdarno and Rome. The road crosses the wood with a rather shady path. Some sections still have the pavement with the stones in excellent condition. The arrangement of the stones of the ancient road can still be seen today.
The stretch in the woods is a bit at the limit for a gravel bike. There are at least 3 rather difficult steps to tackle, but you can safely go down and push for a few meters.
The road of Roman origin was then known in the late Middle Ages with the name of via Ghibellina. In times of need, the friendly armies of Florence from Poppi used the road to quickly get to the rescue of Florence.
