About halfway along the "Chemin des ânes" (the donkey road), on the Thiers de Nivelles you have a beautiful view of the cement factory and the marl quarries of Lixhe, located on an elongated peninsula between the Meuse and the Albert Canal.

The 'Thiers de Nivelle' is a nature reserve on the slope of the Sint-Pietersberg. It consists of steep slopes with calcareous grasslands. Because the slopes here were too steep, meadows were created here that were/are grazed by 'marl landscapes'. In the past, there was a village shepherd who collected the sheep every morning to let them graze on the grasslands. The last shepherds who arrived here on the mountain came from the Jeker valley and reached the Maas flank via the 'Chemin des Ânes' (the donkey road) that runs here. Since the 1990s, sheep have been allowed to graze here again during certain periods to preserve the landscape.

The CBR Lixhe is a large cement factory in the Belgian province of Liège in the municipality of Wezet. The factory is located northwest of Lieze and northeast of Loën. To the west of the factory, the mountain wall of the Haspengouws Plateau rises steeply and lies the Côte de Hallembaye.
