The former Bannmühle in Reichenbachtal and the neighboring oil mill were the largest commercial enterprises in the area for centuries. The grain of the surrounding hamlets had to be ground in the Bannmühle – as required by the ruling mill law. The right was redeemed in 1849 and the mill was still in operation until 1932.

Location and history: The Bannmühle is located in the beautiful Reichenbachtal on the Bannmühlentalweg between Baltmannsweiler and Hegenlohe and south of the old stone bridge.
The Bannmühle is the older of the two mills (Bannmühle and Ölmühle). It worked before 1402 until the Thirty Years' War, when it burned down, and then again from 1675 to 1932. During these three centuries, the mill was owned by the Specht family.
The name Bannmühle is related to the manorial mill law. It meant that the residents of Baltmannsweiler, Hegenlohe, Hohengehren and Thomashardt had to have their grain milled there until this ban was lifted in 1849.

The second mill served as an oil mill between 1772 and 1854, as a bone mill until 1867 and as a sawmill ever since.
