Below Ecksberg, under the protection of an old chestnut, stands the Kronwidl Chapel, a pilgrimage church to the Sorrowful Mother of God. Still a wooden chapel in the 18th century, it was built in stone in 1863. The beautiful image of the Virgin Mary with the medallions of the 14 Holy Helpers and numerous votive tablets had to be removed due to the risk of burglary. The originals are in St. Laurentius in Altmühldorf. The name of the little church can be traced back to the early existence of juniper bushes (= Kranewit). The small fountain in front of the chapel is said to have healing powers for eye problems.
