About 200 meters to the left above the parish church in Zwiesel, the Bergkirche once stood
and is now the destination of many pilgrims.
1682: A chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was donated and built by Franz Casimir Brandt and his wife Anna.
1767: The current building (26 meters long and 11 meters wide) replaced the chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
The frescoes of this Rococo church were created by Franz Anton Rauscher (1731-1777), who is rightly considered the painter of the Bavarian Forest during the Baroque period.
The high altar is crowned by the miraculous image of the Rosary Madonna, which was probably created in the second half of the 18th century.
1994-1997: The Bergkirche was extensively renovated. Horst Fochler created the new celebration altar and ambo, as well as the case for the new organ.
With the celebration of the Mountain Indulgence Week in September – granted by Pope Pius IX on July 30, 1867, in Rome by papal brief "for all eternity" – the parish aims to renew the ancient pilgrimage tradition, as evidenced by the votive images in the sanctuary.
The mountain church is very popular as a wedding church!
    Pilgrimages take place annually.
