Niederglatt belonged to the parish of Gossau with the Felix and Regula church mentioned in 1430. The Gielen von Glattburg are considered to be the builders of the church. The cemetery of Felix and Regula was often also the Gielen grave. After 1528 Niederglatt was largely reformed, and from 1556 Catholic services were held again. From 1527 the chapel of St. Felix was a parity church. A Catholic parish was founded in 1617 and a new church was built in 1853.

Very early on, a chapel was built on what is now the church square in honor of Felix and Regula. Its builders are considered to be the Gielen von Glattburg, representatives of the family of counts who also built the neighboring Magdenau monastery in 1244.
