The church was built between 1864 and 1866 in memory of Edward York of Wighill. It has an interesting cylindrical bell turret.
There are graves both in front and at the back of the church. It is still used today as the cemetery for Tockwith and the surrounding area.
The old vicarage, situated up a drive behind the church, is now a private house.
