The Hauberg is a typical form of cooperative forest management for the Siegerland as well as neighboring parts of the Lahn-Dill-Bergland and the Westerwald. It served the extraction of Gerberlohe and charcoal for the regionally significant iron ore processing as well as for the procurement of firewood. In addition to the forestry use but also took place an agricultural use, such as the Schwendbau typical cultivation of rye and buckwheat in the year after the harvest, and the subsequent community grazing (commons).
