The Westerhever lighthouse was built in 1906, can only be reached on foot or by bike and is located approx. 1,000 meters in front of the outer dike. The two houses to the left and right of the lighthouse (formerly the lighthouse keepers' houses) are now used by the Wadden Sea National Park Office, which also offers exhibitions about the Wadden Sea. The tower stands on a four-meter-high terp with a pile foundation (127 thick, long oak piles) and a concrete base. The tower was assembled from 608 cast iron plates screwed together and weighing a total of 130 tons. There are nine floors within the tower. The beacon became operational on May 26, 1908. After decades of lighthouse keepers doing their duty at the lighthouse, it is now automatically monitored from Tönning.
