THE SHOPPING BOY
The bronze figure of the shoemaker's boy, which has been on display on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz since 1985, is a symbol of the shoemaker's town of Montabaur. Connected to a clock, the shoemaker boy shows the viewer and the employees of the opposite town hall of the municipality administration every half hour the bird. "Evil tongues claim that the shoemaker boy shows the council and the administration of the city the bird", wrote the Westerwälder Zeitung on June 3, 1985 in your report on the position of the figure.
Dr. Paul Hütte, at that time the city's first alderman, admitted: "Crazy decisions are made from time to time, but not every half hour".

The figure was donated by the house owner, lawyer Günter Holly, and was designed by the artist Ernemann Sander from Königswinter.

Whether the figure with the movable arm is a "wonder of the world", since it is (at that time) the world's only free-standing bronze figure with a movable arm (which Mr. Holly occasionally noticed) could not be proven to this day. According to the donor's wishes, his daughter Dorothee was the model for the lascivious facial features, especially for the “cheeky laugh”.
