Peace oaks are oaks that were planted as memorial trees to commemorate a war won and the peace that followed. In Germany, these were mainly planted as a memorial to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71.
The planting of peace oaks took place mainly in central squares or green spaces in the places concerned. In the late 19th century, many streets and restaurants were named after the tree that gave it its name, with names such as "Peace Oak",
