Anyone who crosses the NSG Hevenbruch from the west can look forward to a great descent. But you shouldn't make too much use of the downhill swing, because boards to the left and right of the forest path provide valuable information about the residents in the nature reserve. A plaque indicates a breeding site for the cranes. In this way, cycling and hiking enthusiasts learn that the cranes benefit from the floods in the Hevenbruch even after the young have hatched. The birds find a rich supply of aquatic insects, crustaceans and amphibians, which provide the young with important proteins for growth. The cycling and hiking enthusiasts will also learn something about the forest bats, which only show in the old forests of the Hevenbruch in the protection of twilight. These rare and endangered mammals rely on cave-rich old forests. Here they find enough food and the females move into common nurseries to raise their young.
