As part of the Rendsburg parish of St. Marien, Schacht-Audorf was given its own parish in 1925. The distance from the mother church and the separation by the canal made the desire for independence grow. In 1929, a chapel of its own was built. After the population had risen sharply, the chapel was converted into St. John's Church in 1953.

Schacht-Audorf has been an independent parish since 1960. In the years 1971 to 1973, the church was expanded to include a community center and a free-standing bell tower.
