The history of Puffendorf and details about the listed church of St. Laurentius are explained here.
History
The first settlement probably took place in Roman times. This is supported by the location on an elevated site on an old Roman road which, coming from the northwest, led via Geilenkirchen to Aldenhoven.
In addition, a number of fragments of Roman roof tiles and bowls were found. Even hand axes from the Stone Age have been found here. Some of them are now in the Landesmuseum Bonn. The church of St. Laurentius, which was listed as a historical monument in 1991, is particularly worth seeing. The three-aisled, neo-Gothic church was built in 1888 after the previous church had become too dilapidated and too small. The three-story tower, however, dates back to 1777. St. Laurentius was badly damaged in World War II and could only be restored in 1953. The organ loft and the statues of saints are still preserved from the 19th century furnishings.
