The little story of Roche Ecroulée
Beyond, the site is impressive, the imposing mountains, we realize that the Queyras was an ocean 150 million years ago. And the Collapsed Rock placed on the ground surprises: we begin to imagine the day it fell there, accompanied by its twin rocks, and scree visible higher up. It must have been pretty darn impressive.

Oral tradition places the fall at the end of the 19th century: the basalt rocks and gabbros - dense basaltic rocks) broke away from the Pic des Lauzes (Bric des Lauzes), and led to a collapse of the cliff so significant that the inhabitants believed in an earthquake.

The meadows below the Pic des Lauzes were buried by millions of tonnes of pulverized rocks, completely covering the “Lou pas desmaisouns” (Le Pas des Maisons) alpine chalets under the mass of stones. A few large rocks ended up reaching the bed of the Guil: the Roche Croulée is one of them.

Oral family information places the date of the landslide at the year 1860 (other ristoulins tell us 1813), and it has been said that the cloud of dust was visible as far as Chateau-Queyras!
