The Fünfgratturm is a former defense tower and was built in 1454 as part of the eastern city wall of Augsburg around the Jakobervorstadt for the so-called swarm guards. Around 1600 it lost its function as a gate tower. It has stood alone since the city wall was demolished in 1867/68. The Fünffingerlesturm is owned by the city and is a listed building.
