In the eastern part of the Mátra, a lonely volcanic mountain peak, the 296 m high Castle Hill, bursts towards the sky, with the walls of Sirok Castle on it. The oldest history and traces of Sirok Castle can be traced back to the time of the Avars, who (according to some assumptions) fortified Castle Hill, which was so excellent for defense, and fortified it and established a permanent station here. After their rule in the 8th century it was occupied by the invading Slavic tribes and rebuilt according to their own purposes.
