The beginnings of the Klusenkapelle lie in the dark of bygone times. It is dedicated to St. Aegidius, one of the 14 helpers. The church was probably built before 1300. Already in 1269, the area is mentioned in documents, but without the Kluse is called. From a document from the year 1359 shows that at the chapel a priest was active. So it can be assumed that the church was built before. On the oldest map of the Abbey Werden 1582 it is shown in the picture. It is said that a close relative of Count Frederick of Isenburg after the assault of Frederick on Engelbert, the Archbishop of Cologne, on 7 November 1225 in a Kluse (Klause) include, in atone for the murder of Engelbert.

The path down from the "Jogger-Parkplatz" on Frankenstrasse through the city forest is undoubtedly one of the wildest romantic walks that food has to offer. Paths run down under mature trees, and it may seem that they all lead to a goal: in the picturesque valley stands the Klusen-Kapelle St. Ägidius, built of broken Ruhr sandstone. It is one of the most beautiful gems of the city, a magical place.
