The so-called Heimkehrerdenkmal (Homecomer Monument) on Bahnhofsplatz in Wiener Neustadt commemorates all soldiers who returned from captivity after the Second World War. The sandstone sculpture was designed by the sculptor Wilhelm Wurzer, who had it erected in 1976 on behalf of the city and the Homecomer Association. It is intended to be a symbolic monument, above all, to the approximately 60,000 homecomers who were handed over to Austrian authorities at the city's train station at the time, coming from Russia.
