Haune Aue Floodplain near Haunestausee

Before the water of the Haune reaches the "large" permanently dammed lake, it flows through a natural meadow and lake landscape; which has arisen in recent years through extensive renaturation measures by the nature conservation authority of the district of Fulda and the Haune water association. This increased the previous nature reserve by ten hectares to 28.79 hectares.
In this way, an ecologically rich floodplain landscape is ensured as a breeding and resting area for numerous rare and threatened water bird species such as grebes, little grebes, kingfisher and various species of ducks. The area is secured as a habitat and spawning biotope for amphibians, fish and other organisms bound to water.
