There are a few smaller “caves” here in the volcanic rock of the Falkenlay. Some interesting finds prove that these caves were built between 2000 and 4000 BC. were probably populated by Stone Age hunters.

At the foot of the Falkenlay there are smaller Stone Age caves whose settlement dates back to 4,000 to 2,000 BC. BC by Stone Age hunters was proven through corresponding finds.

The Falkenlay is the oldest cinder cone in this volcanic system. During scoria eruptions, chunks of lava of irregular shape and size, called scoria, are ejected from the volcano, which accumulate around the vent and form a characteristically steep and cone-shaped mountain. The approximately 50 m high crater wall can still be seen today. The caves that were populated in the Stone Age can be found here.

The caves can be reached via the “Geo-Route Bad Bertrich” hiking trail.
