Hiking Highlight
The Turracher Schwarzsee is 1840 meters above sea level and has an area of 2.6 hectares.
It got the name because of its black color, due to the boggy soil and the anthracite deposits.

Like the Turrachersee, the Schwarzsee is also divided in the middle by the state border Kärtnten / Styria. The 2.6 hectare mountain lake is a little higher at 1840 meters above sea level and is only about 4 meters deep. The water surface appears black because of the bog soil and the large amount of anthracite. The lake is located in a swamp area, which is home to many frogs and toads, but also to snakes such as the adder and various snakes. The shore is completely natural because a nature reserve extends around the lake. When you pass the Schwarzsee, the old dwarf birch on the lakeshore, a relic from the pre-ice age, will catch your eye.
