Since they did not have their own chapel, generations of Tiefenbach Catholics had to walk to the parish church in Ravengiersburg, the Hunsrück Cathedral, for high mass. Church life was closely linked to the monastery there. At the end of the 19th century 230 Catholics lived in Tiefenbach. A former Tiefenbach citizen who died in 1898 stipulated in her will that her savings of 1,500 marks should be used to build a small, simple church in her former hometown. However, this sum plus interest was to go to her heirs if the building was not completed by 1913. The Catholics donated willingly, but there were still 5,000 marks missing for the new building. Through a public call for donations in 1910, the cath. parish acquire the building site for 544 square meters from Jakob Bambach in Tiefenbach. After the start of construction in 1912, the little church was completed in the following year, 1913.

The building is described as a small, single-nave Art Nouveau building with a retracted semicircular choir. Particularly worth mentioning are the stained glass windows.

The church was consecrated on Sunday, September 16, 1913. Its patron is Franz Xavier, the patron saint of seafarers and messenger of faith on all missions.
